MEDNAX Selects Cohesity for ScaleOut NAS to Manage 2PB of Data and Process Over 20 Million PACS Images Per Day

MEDNAX, through its vRad radiology business, operates the world’s largest cloud-based PACS and needed to manage massive scale and strict SLAs: ingesting and deleting roughly 20 million image files daily, storing about 2 PB of medical images, and supporting sites across the country. The organization required a low-latency, multiprotocol (SMB/NFS/S3) scale-out NAS solution that could consolidate diverse applications and infrastructure while remaining cost-effective, secure, and able to tier data to the cloud.

MEDNAX replaced legacy storage with Cohesity (DataPlatform, DataProtect and CloudArchive) integrated with Cisco UCS and Azure, consolidating multiple systems into a single platform. The deployment delivered predictable read/write/delete performance, eliminated bottlenecks, and simplified management across ~150 locations, while reducing total cost of ownership by 50% and improving compression/deduplication by ~50%. Cohesity now stores the PACS repository, supports timely diagnostic workflows (servicing roughly 600 emergency patients per hour with reports in as few as eight minutes), replicates data for DR, and enables future cloud tiering and analytics use cases.
