Hyatt Speeds Backups from Days to Minutes

Hyatt, a global hospitality company managing multiple brands and data centers across the Midwest, West and Europe, faced a fragmented legacy backup environment. Rapid data growth (the West data center held 1.8 PB and was growing ~20% annually), 70% virtualization on Linux, and an archival solution that required VM reboots made backups slow, unreliable and difficult to manage. Hyatt sought an agentless, no-new-hardware solution to modernize backup and recovery and enable efficient replication and dev/test workflows.

Hyatt deployed the Cohesity data management platform across three data centers (about 350 TB capacity, protecting 100+ TB and 350+ VMs) to provide agentless VMware-integrated backups, native snapshots and policy-driven retention. The result: backup and restore times shrank from days to minutes, capacity dropped ~40% (dedupe ratios up to 4:1), and fast replication enabled zero-cost clones for development and testing, while simplifying RPO/RTO management and future data consolidation.
