Providence Health Plan needed a more reliable way to protect and quickly recover the benefits and claims data that supports pre-approvals for its members. After problems with its managed backup service, including slow backups, difficult maintenance, and an unusable restore, the health plan turned to Cohesity for a more secure and resilient backup solution.

Cohesity implemented immutable on-prem backups and automatic tiering to Cohesity FortKnox on AWS, with long-term retention in AWS Glacier. Providence Health Plan migrated most of its 1,100 servers in 30 days and completed the transition in less than 60 days. The result was major gains in resilience and speed: the team has not missed a single backup, can recover data in minutes with Instant Mass Restore, restored 3 TB in a few hours instead of seven days, and cut upgrade work by about seven days per release.
