A Cohesity Case Study
Foxwoods Resort Casino, a large tribal-owned resort and gaming complex, faced growing risks from an aging virtual tape–based backup system that dated back to 1998. As the environment virtualized, restore times for VMs stretched to four–five hours, daily backup management consumed about three hours, infrastructure costs rose, and critical tribal services (health, 911, courts) required more reliable, always-on protection and better ransomware resilience.
Foxwoods replaced the legacy system with Cohesity DataProtect running on Cisco UCS (deployed with Presidio), cutting backup management time 12x to under 15 minutes daily and reducing VM recovery from hours to about 2–3 minutes (99% faster). The solution doubled to quadrupled retention for key workloads, shortened the backup window to under six hours, provided immutable encrypted backups to strengthen ransomware defense, and freed IT staff to focus on strategic work while improving business continuity and guest experience.
