A Cohesity Case Study
The City of Santa Barbara’s IT team needed a modern secondary storage solution to replace a patchwork of Dell, Microsoft, Veeam and VMware systems as data volumes grew roughly 30% annually and retention requirements (including HIPAA and PCI) expanded. The legacy environment was running out of capacity and the city wanted better deduplication and compression, a move away from independent servers, lower TCO, and native cloud integration for future-proof disaster recovery.
After evaluating options, the city deployed Cohesity DataPlatform with C2600 nodes as a scale-out backup target for 150 VMs, SQL databases and files. Cohesity delivered a jump in deduplication from 3:1 to 10:1, reduced backup windows from ~12 to under 8 hours, cut replication times in half, simplified management with a single repository and dashboard, lowered TCO, and positioned the city for cloud backup/DR with Azure/AWS while reducing on-premises power and cooling.
