City of Seguin bolsters disaster recovery and cybersecurity

City of Seguin, Texas needed to strengthen disaster recovery and cybersecurity as the city grew rapidly and its existing three-data-center backup approach left it vulnerable to natural disasters and cyberattacks. After a Department of Homeland Security audit highlighted those risks, City of Seguin chose Cohesity, along with Nutanix and support from Freeit Data Solutions, to modernize its data protection strategy.

Cohesity implemented immutable backups for Nutanix VMs both on-premises and in Cohesity FortKnox, an isolated cloud vault, with security controls like multifactor authentication and approval requirements for backup changes. The result was stronger disaster recovery and data security, about 50% faster backups, near-instant file restores, and a savings of 3-5 staff hours per week that IT can now redirect to other city services.
