RB makes the national real-time payment system resilient, with Cohesity

Reiknistofa Bankanna (RB), the IT service provider behind Iceland’s core banking and real-time payment systems, needed to modernize its legacy data protection setup to improve security, resilience, and recovery speed. Its old backup system required downtime for upgrades, had slow failovers, and left backups vulnerable to cyberattacks, creating risk for the national payment infrastructure. RB chose Cohesity and Cohesity Data Cloud to replace that environment.

Cohesity implemented immutable backups, faster backup and restore processes, automated restore testing, and support for multiple workloads across two data centers. The results included up to 50% faster backups and recovery, restoration of a 30–40 TB Oracle database in under 8 hours instead of days, simpler DORA and PCI DSS compliance, and the ability to perform upgrades during normal working hours without disrupting payments. RB also reduced management costs by handling the system internally with Cohesity.
