Daikin Applied leads HVAC industry into the internet of things with truly intelligent rooftop units

Daikin Applied, a leading commercial HVAC designer and manufacturer, set out to bring its rooftop systems into the Internet of Things with cloud-based analytics and controls. To deliver an intuitive, reliable, and scalable customer-facing interface alongside partners Intel, Wind River and McAfee, Daikin selected Coherent Solutions to develop the user portal — an ASP.NET, Microsoft Azure-hosted solution for controlling and monitoring equipment remotely.

Coherent Solutions’ 12-person team delivered a responsive web portal in time for beta testing and the 2015 AHR Expo, enabling Daikin’s Intelligent Equipment platform (available factory-installed on the Rebel rooftop line or retrofittable up to eight years). The portal exposes 4,000 sensor data points, supports real-time insight and predictive maintenance, 24/7 remote control, weather-aware optimization, and a subscription SaaS model — creating a new revenue stream for Daikin while improving maintenance, uptime, and energy/cost efficiency.
