How Cognite Infield Simplified Visual Inspection for Aker BP

Aker BP, an independent oil and gas company, needed a better way to optimize visual inspections and function tests on its Skarv FPSO in the Norwegian Sea. Using Cognite InField, the company aimed to reduce the inefficiencies caused by field workers following poorly ordered equipment lists that led to unnecessary crisscrossing around the installation.

Cognite solved the problem by connecting equipment tags to 3D models in InField, allowing workers to group tags by area, view them in 3D, and use high-level installation views for faster navigation. As a result, Aker BP cut inspection time per valve from 10 minutes to five, reducing annual visual inspection work from 279 hours to an estimated 149–130 hours and lowering the time spent by about 50%.
