Statnett, Norway’s national transmission system operator, needed a faster and safer way to connect new power generation systems and consumers to the grid. To support its growing volume of grid connection applications, Statnett worked with Cognite and used Cognite Data Fusion™ to reduce the time spent gathering and cleaning data from multiple systems.

Cognite helped Statnett liberate and contextualize data from source systems such as operational statuses, disconnections, generation capacities, and sensor data, then build an easy-to-use application for analysts to explore that information in one place. The result was faster grid connection processing and improved efficiency, with Statnett estimating the approach is worth about $1.2 million annually, split between internal productivity gains and societal benefits from quicker grid access.
