How Aker BP Is Using 3d to Make Maintenance Work More Efficient

Aker BP, an oil exploration and development company focused on petroleum resources on the Norwegian continental shelf, needed a faster and safer way for field workers to find equipment during scheduled maintenance. Using Cognite Data Fusion™, the company sought to reduce the time workers spent searching for valves and other assets in hazardous conditions across its installations.

Cognite connected data from sensors and other sources to equipment tags and then linked those tags to 3D models of Aker BP’s Ivar Aasen, Skarv, and Valhall installations. Through Cognite’s InField and REVEAL 3D viewer, workers could view equipment locations on any computer or handheld device, helping cut routine inspection time by 75% and enabling one maintenance job on Skarv to be completed in under two hours versus an estimated eight hours.
