A Cogent DataHub Case Study
The Mukhaizna Oil Field in Oman needed to improve performance across eight production facilities as its Rockwell PLC and Iconics HMI/SCADA environment grew to nearly 30,000 tags. With the existing OPC setup forcing inefficient device reads and slowing data collection, the team looked for a way to optimize communications without redesigning the control system. Cogent DataHub was identified as the product that could help streamline the data flow.
Cogent DataHub was implemented as an OPC client to decouple the TOP Server from the HMI, using asynchronous tag updates and in-memory data handling to greatly reduce load on the OPC server. This improved performance immediately, saved tens of thousands of dollars in engineering and development work, and later enabled OPC tunneling, centralized data access, database logging, web-based management visibility, redundancy, and scripting for legacy UNIX data integration. Cogent DataHub helped the customer centralize live production data from all eight sites with no data loss during failover testing and with reliable overall performance.
