Minera San Cristobal - Customer Case Study

Minera San Cristobal, one of the world’s largest silver-zinc-lead mining projects in Bolivia, needed a way to back up critical process data from its DeltaV SCADA system, make plant information available to the corporate network, and support integration with ERP systems like JD Edwards—without exposing the control network to office users. The company turned to Cogent DataHub to build its “DeltaV External Historian” solution.

Cogent DataHub connected the DeltaV OPC server on the plant control network to SQL Server on the corporate network using DataHub tunnelling over TCP, creating a secure one-way data flow from the plant to the historian. The setup mirrored data between the two systems, provided a complete backup of more than 3,600 points, avoided DCOM and firewall complications, and gave managers and accounting staff up-to-the-second access to critical production data, with the customer reporting that the system performed very well and the backup log was perfectly accurate.
