Case Study: City of Montreal achieves secure water system data integration with Cogent DataHub

A Cogent DataHub Case Study

Preview of the City of Montreal Case Study

DataHub used for connectivity and integration on $10 billion project

The City of Montreal in Canada was undertaking a 20-year, $10 billion upgrade to improve drinking water production and distribution across the city. To support this effort, the city needed a reliable and secure way to integrate production data from seven pumping stations, using SCADA/OPC systems without relying on insecure and unreliable DCOM networking. Cogent DataHub was selected for OPC tunneling and data connectivity.

Cogent DataHub implemented secure, read-only data tunneling from each pumping station to a central control location for logging and analysis, while also sending data to the IT office and sharing information between plants. The solution also supported redundant SCADA systems by automatically switching to a backup OPC server when needed. As a result, the system has been running for months without issues, helping the city stay efficient and meeting or exceeding project goals, with strong technical support from Cogent DataHub throughout.
