Citect optimizes OPC-based system using the DataHub

Citect, a Schneider Electric company in the USA, needed to integrate data from more than 220 OPC-enabled field devices into a single MES system. The challenge was that the plant’s OPC servers and even individual tags were highly dynamic, with devices and data points appearing or disappearing at any time, while Citect’s MES environment required a fixed, stable data set.

Cogent DataHub provided the solution by configuring OPC tunneling and using DataHub mirroring so the MES system always saw a constant set of tags, with quality changing when devices went offline. Cogent DataHub also helped implement a script-based re-read process to detect newly added tags after a timed delay, allowing the system to capture changing data reliably. The result was a successful MES integration that delivered dependable data and avoided a project halt, with Citect stating the DataHub was integral to the solution.
