Biomass Biotechnology Bio (BBB), a Japan-based biomass biotechnology company in Chiba prefecture, needed an inexpensive, automated way to monitor the temperature and humidity in its fly-rearing rooms as it expanded production. The company uses fly larvae to convert pig and other animal manure into organic fertilizer and high-protein fish food, so keeping the flies healthy and productive was critical. BBB worked with Cogent DataHub, using its cloud-based monitoring capabilities and WebView.

Cogent DataHub and partner Nissin Systems implemented a real-time, cloud-based monitoring system by connecting a Wi-Fi environmental sensor module to a Cogent DataHub running on a cloud server and creating a web monitoring page with WebView. The solution let BBB track temperature and humidity around the clock, improving convenience and significantly reducing costs; BBB said this would be especially valuable as the operation scales up.
