A Cogapp Case Study

Preview of the Art Institute of Chicago Case Study

Art Institute of Chicago launches layered image viewer with Cogapp for nearly 300,000 works

The Art Institute of Chicago, a major museum with a vast collection, sought a powerful online tool to allow audiences to deeply explore and compare multiple versions of an artwork. They commissioned digital agency Cogapp to develop a specialized interactive component for their existing website to meet this challenge.

Cogapp developed and implemented an innovative layered image viewer powered by OpenSeadragon. This solution allows users to intuitively overlay and compare high-resolution images, such as x-rays and scans, using a slider to control opacity. Fully accessible and seamlessly integrated into the museum's CMS, the viewer provides a flexible tool for curators and a rich experience for scholars. Cogapp delivered this component, which empowers the Art Institute to facilitate new insights and dynamic reconsideration of its collection.
