How Amadeus Organized An Internal Hackathon To Delight Its Tech Teams

Amadeus, a global travel-technology company with 14,000+ employees across 190+ countries, needed a way to engage and unite its distributed developer community—120+ dev teams in 10+ locations and multiple time zones—without making the event feel like “work.” Hugo Questroy and his team wanted a fun, fair programming event that would boost visibility and recognition for developers worldwide, so they partnered with CodinGame to run an online, game-based hackathon using CodinGame’s platform and services.

CodinGame built and managed “Unleash the Geek,” a two-day AI programming competition with custom game design, art direction, and global coordination; after 166,000 code battles and a final prize round, the event became an annual success. According to Amadeus, the hackathon is now in its 4th year with 420+ players, 120+ teams across 15+ locations in 10 time zones, and 99% of participants saying they’d join again—demonstrating measurable increases in developer engagement and internal visibility, delivered by CodinGame.
