UNDP launches Be Safe in 2 countries with Codepixel

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Montenegro faced the challenge of creating a safe way for victims of domestic violence to discreetly seek help, as overt methods like phone calls or visible apps could be overheard or discovered by an abuser. They partnered with the vendor Codepixel for mobile app development to create a secure and covert solution.

Codepixel designed and developed the "Be Safe" app, which features a hidden alert system that sends an immediate SOS with GPS location to emergency services. The app also includes a safe mode that disguises itself as a women's interest magazine to avoid detection. Following its successful launch in Montenegro, the solution was adapted for North Macedonia. The app achieved over 6,000 downloads, helped solve numerous cases, and maintained a high 4.6-star app store rating, demonstrating Codepixel's effective implementation.
