A CodeBroker Case Study
Capital One, sponsor of the Capital One Bowl mascot contest, wanted to add SMS voting so students could cast votes via web, mobile web and text over the 12‑week competition. CodeBroker was selected as the mobile messaging platform to support first‑ever SMS voting, but the project faced two big challenges: a complex set of per‑vote business rules to determine eligibility, and massive, bursty traffic as students could vote up to 250 times per hour (with up to 25,000 total votes for a favorite), including automated voting apps that generated heavy text volumes.
CodeBroker delivered its SMS/mobile messaging platform and enforced the voting logic while scaling to meet demand, supporting tens of millions of votes and managing many millions of incoming votes on the busiest day (with confirmation messages for each vote) without disrupting existing retailer campaigns. The result: CodeBroker helped Capital One exceed expectations by attracting millions of new college students to its web presence and enabled Capital One to expand voting to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
