Augsburg College reduces IT time spent managing backups by 80 percent with CrashPlan PROe

Augsburg College, a private liberal arts college in Minneapolis with about 3,700 students and 600 faculty/staff, was protecting data across 90 servers with Symantec Backup Exec and tape libraries. Rising licensing costs (as much as 25% year-over-year), growing data volumes (~6.5 TB/week), mixed Linux/Windows/OS X environments, and heavy administrative overhead made the existing backup strategy unsustainable for the small IT team.

Augsburg deployed CrashPlan PROe as a hybrid cloud solution, gaining cross-platform support, end-to-end encryption, and built-in data de-duplication. Deployment took just over a month and immediately cut IT time spent managing backups and tape libraries by 80%; cloud storage for the same period dropped from an expected 104 TB to 12 TB, and restores now take up to five minutes instead of nearly 30—delivering a scalable, cost-effective backup solution.
