Why Nightfall uses CockroachDB to support their cloud-native data protection platform that analyzes and processes terabytes of customer data

Nightfall, a cloud-native data protection platform, needed a database that could scale horizontally, support unpredictable spikes in customer scan traffic, and help them consolidate several databases into one source of truth. As their use of Kubernetes and their customer data volumes grew into the terabyte range, they also needed high availability, SQL compatibility, and the ability to control data locality for compliance.

Nightfall chose Cockroach Labs’ CockroachDB to power its API gateway metadata layer and interactive analytics dashboard. With CockroachDB, Nightfall now runs 5 clusters in a single AWS region and plans to expand to EMEA with a multi-region deployment, while benefiting from performant reads and writes, high availability, and easier operations. The company says it has been able to focus more on building product and less on managing databases, with no bottlenecks as customers generate large amounts of data.
