Geo-partitioning for low latency and regulatory compliance

Kindred, one of the world’s leading gaming companies processing more than 6 billion transactions a year and running 200+ microservices, needed a globally deployable database to deliver low end-to-end latency for real-time play while automating compliance with diverse market regulations. Kindred evaluated CockroachDB from Cockroach Labs and became Cockroach Labs’ first design partner to help shape features such as geo-partitioning to meet these requirements.

Cockroach Labs implemented CockroachDB with row-level geo-partitioning, geo-replication, multi-active availability and serializable isolation so Kindred can pin user data to specific countries, keep data close to players, and maintain strong consistency for mission-critical services like the customer wallet. The solution enables regulatory compliance across geographies, reduces latency for real-time interactions, supports Kindred’s scale (6+ billion annual transactions), and simplifies operations to lower operational complexity and costs.
