FanDuel, a leading online sports betting and gaming company, faced significant challenges in scaling their financial ledger system to keep pace with rapid growth and millions of customers who demand always-on access. Their previous Percona MySQL setup was slow, difficult to scale, and had poor disaster recovery capabilities. To adhere to strict U.S. regulations requiring data to reside in each state they operate in, they needed a new solution and chose to implement CockroachDB from Cockroach Labs.

By migrating to a self-hosted CockroachDB cluster, FanDuel built a resilient and scalable financial ledger. The solution seamlessly handles massive transaction volumes, including spikes during major events, and simplifies operations across 28 states. Cockroach Labs provided crucial support during the migration. As a result, FanDuel achieved a recovery point objective (RPO) of 0, scaled their system to handle 4x their previous load, and gained the ability to quickly expand into new states as laws change.
