Alterman, a 101-year-old commercial electrical construction company, wanted to become more data-driven but was struggling with scattered data, no true data warehouse, and an improvised setup built on Azure storage and Alteryx. The lack of centralized, well-modeled data made it hard to scale the team, document workflows, secure data, and hand off reporting work efficiently.

To solve this, Alterman worked with phData to build a new stack centered on Snowflake and used Coalesce as the data transformation layer. With Coalesce, the team consolidated data, automated modeling and documentation, simplified JSON parsing, and used column-level lineage to manage downstream impacts; the results included a 3x increase in data team productivity, several tables modeled in hours instead of days or weeks, and a week of manual change work reduced to a couple of clicks.
