Case Study: WWF Australia drives koala conservation awareness with Coal's KIMBY animation campaign

A Coal Case Study

WWF Australia drives 222,860 video views with Coal

WWF Australia faced the challenge of raising awareness about the koala population's crisis due to excessive land clearing in South East Queensland, which was pushing the species toward extinction. Their goal was to drive public engagement and encourage citizens to petition politicians to stop the habitat destruction. To address this, they partnered with vendor Coal for a campaign utilizing 3D animation and creative art direction.

Coal developed the "Koalas In My Backyard" (KIMBY) campaign, centered around an emotionally engaging animated video and an interactive website where supporters could send a virtual origami koala to politicians. The solution involved creating a unique paper-folding aesthetic and animating a complex origami koala character. This highly creative approach resulted in 39,683 petitions sent, 222,860 video views, and a total reach of 581,658 people, significantly amplifying WWF's message and engagement.
