Building Coalitions of Support The Rocks, Rba, Afcoma Focus on Strength in Diversity

The ROCKS, a mentoring and scholarship-focused service organization formed from an original cohort of African American Army officers, has grown to 16 chapters worldwide and more than 1,000 volunteers supporting military officers and ROTC cadets. As the group expanded, managing membership, fundraising and events with spreadsheets and Microsoft Access became increasingly frustrating, so the organization sought a better solution and selected ClubExpress’s membership-management platform.

ClubExpress implemented an online system for member tracking, payments, event management and custom site updates (including a redesigned ROCKS home page), which made processes smoother and easier to administer. The platform enabled growth and chapter launches—the Washington, D.C. ROCKS chapter (160 members) went live in 2009—and was adopted by affiliated groups such as RBA (about 80 members) and AFCOMA (about 25 members). ClubExpress also eliminated the need to print and mail membership directories, improving networking and reducing overhead, and earned ongoing recommendations from The ROCKS’ management for its continual improvements.
