A Cloudticity Case Study
Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN) faced challenges with its on-premises data centers, which struggled with scalability, security vulnerabilities from VPNs, and frequent outages as it handled millions of patient messages weekly. To become more scalable, secure, and cost-effective, MiHIN chose to migrate to the cloud, partnering with Amazon Web Services and the consulting firm Cloudticity.
Cloudticity implemented a solution that replaced insecure VPNs with secure API tools and migrated MiHIN's servers to AWS, utilizing services like EC2, RDS, and later AWS Lambda and Amazon Neptune. This architecture, managed with Cloudticity Oxygen, ensured high availability and HIPAA compliance. The results were transformative: MiHIN achieved 100% uptime for two years, expanded from operating in Michigan to processing data across seven states, and evolved from a traditional data broker into an innovator with new applications and revenue streams.
