How CloudSigma and Webscale Enabled Dynamic Autoscaling for a Swiss Spatial Data Portal

EBP, a Switzerland-based consulting and IT services firm, needed a dynamically scalable cloud infrastructure for its customer CCGEO’s GeoDienste spatial data portal. The challenge was to support automated server cloning, start/stop/destroy actions, a rules engine for auto-scaling, and an easy-to-manage console while keeping data in Switzerland. CloudSigma, working with Webscale Networks, provided the cloud foundation and load-balancing capability for the project.

CloudSigma implemented a highly available, Swiss-hosted environment with Webscale’s dynamic autoscaling and load balancing, enabling servers to scale up and down automatically based on demand. The initial setup used five servers, and the production environment expanded to eight servers across base, integration, test/development, and monitoring workloads, with auto-scaling front-end servers handling peak traffic. As a result, EBP gained a flexible, cost-effective platform with strong support, timely issue resolution, and room to grow as more spatial data topics are added.
