The Municipality of West Grey building department adapts quickly to working remotely during COVID-19

The Municipality of West Grey faced the sudden need to continue building permit services while shifting staff out of the office during the COVID-19 pandemic. To adapt, the Municipality of West Grey implemented Cloudpermit’s cloud-based e-permitting software in January, enabling remote application review and digital document handling for its building department.

Using Cloudpermit, the two building inspectors can review applications, submit reports online, and enter site information on tablets, allowing them to work from home when not on site and reducing in-person visits. The vendor’s solution eliminated paper hand-offs and office drop-offs (one local contractor now submits applications nearly every week without visiting the office), improved safety by removing 24-hour paper delays, and kept permit services running smoothly.
