Case Study: Municipality of Grey Highlands achieves seamless remote e-permitting and uninterrupted service with Cloudpermit

A Cloudpermit Case Study

Preview of the Municipality of Grey Highlands Case Study

Ontario building departments rapidly adapt to remote work

The Municipality of Grey Highlands, a rural Ontario community of about 10,000 residents spread across 883 km², needed to continue permitting services while shifting staff and public interactions to remote work during the COVID-19 crisis. To maintain service delivery and reduce in-person visits across its large service area, the Municipality of Grey Highlands adopted the cloud-based e-permitting platform Cloudpermit.

Cloudpermit was implemented remotely with no downtime, enabling staff to access permits from anywhere, inspectors to screen applicants and file reports on tablets, and multiple municipal departments to review and update records in real time. The system also allowed legacy permits to be scanned and appended with new documents, improving transparency and efficiency — the Municipality issued 40 permits online in the first two weeks of the shutdown — demonstrating measurable time- and travel-savings thanks to Cloudpermit.
