A Cloudpermit Case Study
The Municipality of Grey Highlands, a rural community of about 10,000 people spread across 883 km², needed to rebuild a barn quickly after a devastating fire that left a local Mennonite family without a structure and with limited ability to travel for in-person permit errands. The municipality used Cloudpermit’s e-permitting software to accept and manage the permit application remotely, enabling the family to submit drawings and related documents without multiple trips to municipal offices.
With Cloudpermit, the farmers uploaded the application over the weekend, the engineer attached a report Tuesday morning, and the Municipality of Grey Highlands issued the permit that afternoon — allowing construction to begin Wednesday, just four days after the fire. Cloudpermit’s system eliminated lost documents, reduced travel and phone follow-ups, provided real-time tracking, and has since been rolled out across finance, planning, utilities and fire departments, dramatically speeding turnaround and simplifying permitting across the municipality.
