Sunflower Broadband, a broadband communications provider serving most homes in the Lawrence, Eudora, and Douglas County areas of Kansas, needed a more scalable way to protect 20,000 email accounts from spam, phishing, viruses, and abuse. Its existing rules-based anti-abuse system was too CPU-intensive to keep running reliably, and traffic spikes from attacks were creating operational headaches for administrators. Cloudmark provided Traffic Control with Cloudmark Authority™ to address these issues.

Cloudmark’s solution placed Traffic Control in front of Sunflower’s mail servers and used Cloudmark Authority as the spam-filtering layer, improving traffic handling and end-to-end email protection. The result was reduced resource usage, better filtering accuracy, fewer false positives, and improved service quality for subscribers. Sunflower also avoided buying two or three new servers, potentially saving $5,000 to $10,000, and was able to redeploy a Xeon server to other tasks while handling more than 500 concurrent sessions.
