The University of Sheffield Automates its Biorepository Data Management Operations using CloudLIMS

The University of Sheffield’s Sheffield Biorepository – an HTA-licensed facility that stores hundreds of thousands of human tissue samples – needed a secure, auditable and cost-effective way to replace error-prone spreadsheet tracking and meet regulatory confidentiality requirements. After evaluating cloud options, the University of Sheffield selected CloudLIMS’ cloud-based LIMS (SaaS) to provide configurable sample, subject and inventory management with role-based access and compliance controls.

CloudLIMS implemented its cloud LIMS with features such as a universal uploader, Subject and Inventory modules, 256-bit AES/HTTPS security and disaster recovery, plus training and configuration support. The vendor helped migrate legacy data rapidly (up to 230,000 samples uploaded in six months, versus a previous system that took over a year to partially load 60,000), cut sample turnaround times, simplified maintenance scheduling and auditing, and scaled biorepository operations without increasing IT costs.
