VELTRA, a leading online travel experience marketplace in Japan, faced a significant challenge in optimizing costs for its image-heavy website while maintaining a fast, responsive user experience. Their previous content delivery network imposed high fixed monthly fees that did not adjust with seasonal traffic fluctuations, which became a major financial strain during the pandemic. To address this, they turned to vendor Cloudinary and its advanced image optimization technology delivered via Amazon CloudFront.
The solution implemented by Cloudinary, in partnership with AWS, involved replacing VELTRA's existing CDN and integrating Cloudinary's image optimization. This created a pay-as-you-go consumption model that reduced costs during low-traffic periods. The results included a 15% reduction in total data transfer for page display and significant improvements in image display and response times. Cloudinary's efficient image handling also freed engineering resources, allowing VELTRA's team to focus on adding new travel destinations.
