A Cloudinary Case Study
Under Armour, maker of performance apparel and the Connected Fitness platform (UA Record, MapMyFitness, Endomondo, MyFitnessPal), needed a way to host and deliver large volumes of user-generated images and video while simplifying image sizing and transformations for a rapidly growing user base (150M+ registered users). As UA Record launched, developers prioritized a solution that would speed development cycles, be cost-competitive, and support massive scale and fast, high-quality image delivery.
Under Armour implemented Cloudinary to host profile images and media for UA Record and MapMyFitness, moving millions of assets into production quickly. By October 2015 Cloudinary stored over 5.5M images (growing ~10%/month), provided on-the-fly optimization and transformations, integrated with AWS backups and SDKs, reduced engineering overhead, sped development, and improved user experience with faster uploads and better-looking photos—while the vendor partnership delivered ongoing product and cost-improvement advice.
