A Cloudinary Case Study
StubHub, the world’s largest ticket marketplace, faced a scaling and imagery problem as its site grew more visual across desktops, tablets and mobiles. With more than 120,000 active events, 800–1,200 new listings daily and a catalog of thousands of images from partners, the team struggled with manual editing (17,000 images in 2017), inconsistent cropping across 30+ viewports, asset access control and the need to enforce brand guidelines.
By implementing Cloudinary, StubHub moved to a single high-resolution source per image with dynamic, device-aware optimization (auto format selection, face/edge/entropy detection) and a permissioned digital asset management system. The result: pages load three to four times faster, image load times improved up to 6x, page weight dropped up to 60%, and individual images were dramatically reduced (e.g., 1.2 MB → 8 KB and improved download times from 336 ms to 51 ms).
