Cloudinary Helps PetRescue Stay Focused on Helping Pets Find Their Forever Homes

PetRescue is Australia’s most-visited animal welfare platform (founded 2004) that has hosted more than 800,000 listings and helped over 661,000 pets find homes. The charity relied on a complex, slow image workflow—uploads went front-end → S3 → queued processing with delays (sometimes 15–30 minutes), no user cropping/resizing, and manual background jobs to manage millions of images—creating poor user experience and tying up development resources.

PetRescue migrated its entire media library to Cloudinary using the upload widget, enabling URL-based on-the-fly resizing and automatic mobile optimization. The switch removed background processing and manual tasks, made uniform changes across millions of assets with one click, freed web developers to focus on the charity’s mission, improved image performance for ~50,000 daily visitors, and reduced costs.
