New Video Surveillance Puts Montebello Bus Lines on Route to Cost Savings and Increased Safety

Montebello Bus Lines, the City of Montebello’s transit agency that operates 72 buses and serves over 8 million passengers per year, needed faster access to multi-camera video and longer, cost-effective retention than the 60 days their budget allowed. To solve this, they turned to Cloudian, deploying Cloudian HyperStore on a Lenovo DX8200C appliance alongside Transportation Security Systems’ IRIS mobile security software to provide S3-compatible object storage with rich metadata tagging.

Cloudian’s solution streams scheduled and emergency uploads from buses, breaks large clips into concurrent parts for reliable transfer, and tags video with time, location, vehicle ID and more, enabling instant, metadata-based discovery instead of slow manual timecode searches. The Cloudian deployment can start with a small three-node footprint and scale to petabyte-plus capacity, giving Montebello Bus Lines a path to multi-year retention, reduced retrieval times, improved upload reliability, and projected cost savings while increasing rider safety.
