Taking Data Access and Governance into Orbit

Eutelsat Group, the global satellite operator with GEO-LEO infrastructure, needed a scalable, compliant way to unify and govern rapidly growing operational and customer data after its 2023 merger with OneWeb. Using Cloudera on AWS, the company set out to build an open data lakehouse that could support hybrid cloud operations across multiple countries while keeping full control of its data.

Cloudera implemented a centralized open data lakehouse based on Apache Iceberg, helping Eutelsat Group remove data silos, improve governance, and enable secure access across tools. The result has been faster time to market for new data products without growing the team, real-time monitoring of satellite performance, and the ability to process more than 50 million end-user data points per day; Cloudera is also supporting production machine learning use cases and future generative AI initiatives.
