Smart Dubai Leveraging analytics and Open Data to make it the happiest city on Earth

Smart Dubai, the government office leading Dubai’s citywide smart transformation, set out to make Dubai “the happiest city on earth” by treating data as a strategic asset. Faced with mandatory data sharing under the Dubai Data Law and an ambitious target of 100 smart initiatives and 1,000 smart services, the city needed to unify existing projects, modernize infrastructure, and manage a growing deluge of open and shared datasets in real time.

To solve this, Smart Dubai built the Dubai Pulse platform using Cloudera and Apache NiFi for scalable ingestion, storage and real-time analytics. The platform powers dashboards for electricity and water consumption and a City Flow Dashboard for population movement, has ingested 550+ datasets (from 2,000+ identified), attracted 2 million+ hits, supports 115 services via DubaiNow, and helped launch a 500-member Smart Cities Global Network—delivering actionable insights for planners, utilities and service providers.
