Dell SecureWorks is a 24/7 managed information security provider that protects thousands of organizations, including large enterprises, by monitoring and analyzing massive volumes of security data. Facing the need to process roughly 20 billion events per day, investigate about 1,000 incidents daily, and analyze ~20,000 malware samples, the company needed a highly scalable, cost-conscious platform for storing, processing, and analyzing both structured and unstructured data.

SecureWorks deployed the Dell | Cloudera solution—Cloudera’s Hadoop distribution (CDH) on Dell PowerEdge C2100 servers with Dell Crowbar and Force10 networking and joint Dell/Cloudera services—accelerating deployment by about six months. The Hadoop-based platform delivered high availability and easy scalability, cut storage costs from $17/GB to ~$0.21/GB, produced a roughly one-year payback as legacy storage is retired, and positioned the company to cost-effectively scale with future data growth.
