Case Study: Cerner achieves lifesaving predictive analytics and improved patient outcomes with Cloudera Enterprise Data Hub

A Cloudera Case Study

Preview of the Cerner Case Study

Saving Lives with Big Data Analytics that Predict Patient Conditions

Cerner, a global healthcare IT leader used in thousands of medical facilities, set out to move beyond electronic medical records to build a comprehensive population‑health platform. The challenge was ingesting and normalizing massive, diverse clinical and claims data at scale while ensuring security, traceability, fast iteration for analytics, and the compute power to run complex search and prediction algorithms.

Cerner built an enterprise data hub on Cloudera’s Hadoop platform (CDH), using technologies like Kafka, HBase, Storm and Cloudera Manager to support a multi‑tenant environment with more than 2 PB of data. The platform unifies EMRs and other feeds, enables SAS and BI workflows, and powers predictive models (for sepsis and readmissions) that customers report have saved hundreds of lives while improving clinical and financial outcomes.
