O2, the commercial brand of Telefónica UK and one of the country’s largest mobile operators, faced the regulatory challenge of meeting IFRS 15 revenue-reporting rules—which required 99.9% daily accuracy—without disruptive rewrites of its legacy systems. Rather than simply patching compliance gaps, O2 wanted a transformational solution that would mitigate security and penalty risks while enabling faster, trusted financial and customer analytics.
Working with Hortonworks and Accenture, O2 implemented a hybrid big-data Financial Data Hub built on Hortonworks Data Platform and Data Flow with a bespoke reconciliation layer and cloud-based testing via Accenture Insights Platform. The hub ingests and reconciles over 20 million records daily, delivers month-end postings on Working Day 1, achieves the required 99.9% accuracy, reduces separate data stores and costs, speeds data access from weeks to days, and provides a scalable foundation for analytics, ML and improved customer experiences.
