A Cloudera Case Study
A North American trucking company modernized its telematics offering to manage and optimize a growing fleet with real-time streaming data for predictive maintenance, routing, fueling and remote diagnostics. The platform needed to handle hundreds of thousands of connected trucks with minimal downtime—critical to avoid revenue loss, higher customer costs and warranty exposure—while reducing day-to-day operational overhead.
The company migrated to Cloudera CDP Public Cloud on Microsoft Azure and adopted the CDP Operational Database (COD) for autonomous, auto-scaling HBase, separated Storm and HBase workloads, and introduced Kafka (with a planned move to Flink) plus east–west region replication for failover. The redesign supports ~200,000 trucks today (targeting 1M by 2025), enables continuous availability and seamless maintenance, and delivers $800K–$1M/year in Azure storage savings plus an estimated $600K/year in operational savings.
