A Cloudera Case Study
LiveRamp, a data-driven marketing company founded in 2006, helps marketers enrich contact lists to create accurate, personalized customer views. As data volumes grew, its organic MySQL-and-queue pipeline became unmanageable and too costly to scale, and frequent reprocessing needs ruled out a traditional relational warehouse, so the team looked to Hadoop for a scalable solution.
LiveRamp migrated to Apache Hadoop and then Cloudera’s CDH, ingesting 1–2 TB of logs daily via Scribe into HDFS, processing data into a key-value store (Hank) and using MySQL for downstream marts. The platform now runs 250 TB on 280 nodes (capacity for 400 TB), delivers >90% accuracy, 24x7 reliability, and lower cost than RDBMS, while Cloudera Manager and support improved operational visibility, configuration management, and engineering efficiency.
