A Cloudera Case Study
Johns Hopkins University, a leading research institution with major medical and applied physics programs, needed a robust, secure platform to collect and analyze highly sensitive, HIPAA‑regulated patient and research data. Protecting and managing data across disparate sources was critical for both clinical care and research at the School of Medicine and the Applied Physics Laboratory.
The university implemented HDF components—including Apache NiFi, Knox, Atlas, and Ranger—to provide a stable, secure big‑data foundation. This enabled reliable ingestion and transport of diverse data into the Hadoop cluster, supported secure analytics on protected data, and delivered actionable insights that help clinicians and researchers improve diagnosis, treatment, and overall patient care.
