A Cloudera Case Study
IQVIA, a global provider of analytics, technology and contract research services for the life‑sciences industry, was hindered by fragmented data across 250 separate data warehouses (Oracle, Netezza, Teradata) and by performance and scalability limits that made analysis slow and iterative work impractical. Executives challenged the status quo and sought a data‑driven approach to explore larger datasets more quickly and bring analytics to the data.
IQVIA built a modern data platform on Cloudera—using Apache Kudu, Spark, Cloudera Data Science Workbench and Cloudera Director—to consolidate more than 2 PB into global multi‑tenant data lakes. The platform gives 70 teams (1,500–2,000 users) self‑service BI and data‑science capabilities, cutting query times from days to seconds, enabling rapid patient identification for trials, reducing development costs and timelines, and accelerating innovation toward precision medicine.
