Institute for Energy Technology Helps Unleash Digital Innovation in Norway

The Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), a leading Norwegian energy research organization, faced the challenge of turning disparate research and municipal data into a secure, compliant asset to drive digital innovation. IFE needed to support smart‑city goals in Halden, help public agencies and SMEs “test before invest,” preserve decades of historical reactor data, and ensure data sovereignty while enabling climate‑adaptation and zero‑emission initiatives.

IFE implemented Cloudera Data Platform and Cloudera Data Science Workbench to build a data factory using data lakehouse and data fabric architectures. The solution consolidated and governed data for AI and analytics, preserved 50 years of operational records, enabled an EU‑aligned Digital Innovation Hub and a pilot municipal data market (water metering), and accelerated experimentation, job creation, and digital transformation for Norway’s public sector and businesses.
