Case Study: Santander achieves 10x faster time-to-market and 20x lower infrastructure costs with Cloudera Cloudbreak

A Cloudera Case Study

Preview of the Santander Case Study

Increasing business agility with cloud-based data architectures

Santander Group, a leading Spain-based retail and commercial bank serving 142 million clients worldwide, needed to scale its analytics to support digital services, comply with strict regional regulations, and accelerate product delivery. Legacy data marts and warehouses could not keep up with exploding data volumes across multiple systems and locations, leaving the bank searching for a scalable, compliant big data architecture that worked across on-premises and cloud environments.

Santander partnered with Cloudera to build a cloud-based data lake using open-source processing tools and Cloudbreak to provision ephemeral clusters on demand, and moved from HDFS to object storage. The new architecture standardized data access across regions, enabled on-demand big data clusters, cut hybrid infrastructure costs by 20x, sped time-to-market for applications by 10x, and improved regulatory compliance and operational agility.
